yesterday we had class all day, but we did get to tour the chigi palace for real this time! it's really cool. my favorite part was the leather wall coverings. yup! leather!
the chigi palace has one of the largest/best leather wall covering collections in the world. some museums have only a small square of leather wall coverings on display because obviously they're difficult to preserve. but in the chigi palace, there are still walls completely covered. this is because during world war II they took the wall coverings off of the walls and hid them in caves so that the nazis would not get them. then they were reapplied after castelli romani was liberated in 1944!

he speaks decent english, but he has susanna write down the words he pronounces incorrectly during our lectures so that he can practice them later! we're all in love with him

we just had class all day today. literally all day. i meant to go outside and watch the procession for ariccia's patron saint tonight, but i completely forgot. they carry the statue of the saint out of the front of the church (which is right across the street) and they take it all the way to the town square. i completely missed it and i'm really sad. oh well... i got some gelato!
tomorrow we go to rome with class. we're going to a lot of places! so ill have more to write about tomorrow. ciao!
