this weekend we headed up north to torino, italy! you might recognize this city from the 2006 winter olympics. it used to be italy's capital many years ago before rome took that position over. it is known for it's little cafes (the best!), chocolate, and home of the fiat factory (cars). torino is in the piemonte region of italy, which is the number one italian region for wine, and their most famous wines are barolo and barbaresco. so it's kind of a big deal i guess.
my new dining room chairs
crocodile toilets!!
this city has a couple of fun things to do. it is home to the largest egyptian museum outside of egypt, a large cinema museum, and a giant/beautiful royal palace (we visited all of these, duh). but i really liked torino because the people were SO nice. this isn't a typical tourist destination, so it's not overwhelming. a lot of the people going through the museums were italians, so that was neat.
the best was that torino was really cultural. so we ate that up. friday night we went to mexican and it was like we were little kids at disney. seriously. we were so excited to hear latin music and see burritos that our server was laughing at us. after we devoured our meals, our server came and asked, "tequila bomb?" in his thick italian accent. of course heather agreed, duh, so next thing we know he's screaming ONE, TWO, THREE, and banging shot glasses down on the table. heather took hers first, so the rest of us, who are scared of shots, asked if it tastes like tequila and she replied with a definite no. courtney was next, but we knew immediately that heather was lying. but we had to take them because our server was giving them to us for free! i held my nose, surprise. saturday night we had sushi... mmmm.
margaritas and sangria!!!
saturday during the day we saw all of the good stuff. started out in the egyptian museum, made our way to the top of turin, and finished at the royal palace. it was pretty action-packed.
